Anemometer is the device for
measuring wind speed. Cup and propeller anemometers are the two types of commonly
used anemometers. The propeller rotates to a parallel axis in propeller-type anemometer.
While cup anemometers are mainly used by meteorological station and normally consist
of three or four cups mounted symmetrically at right angles to a vertical axis.
The force exerted by the wind is greater on the inside surface of the cup than
on the outside so the cups rotate. The rate of rotation is directly proportional
to the wind speed and thus the wind speed can be measured.
