
At 8 a.m. on 9 September 2009, a tropical depression formed at the west of the Philippines over South China Sea (16.8°N, 118.8°E, central pressure 1000 hPa), which was moving west-northwestwards at a speed of 8km/h with the maximum sustained winds of 54km/h.
At 9 a.m. on 10 September, the tropical depression intensified into a tropical storm at about 390km south-southeast of Macao (19.0°N, 115.1°E, central pressure 990 hPa) and was named Mujigae (0913). Its maximum sustained winds was 67km/h and was moving west-northwestwards at a speed of 20km/h. It was crossing the northern part of South China Sea after skirting 300km to the South of Macao that night.
At 2 a.m. on 11 September, Mujigae made landfall over Wenchang city in Hainan Province. It moved westwards and reached gulf of Beibu after crossing the northern part of Hainan Province.
On 12 September, the landward Mujigae weakened into a tropical depression and dissipated gradually over the Vietnam.
