
At 8 a.m. on 18 June 2009, a tropical disturbance developed into a tropical depression at the west of Luzon (the Philippines) over the South China Sea (18.3°N, 116.7°E, central pressure 1000 hPa), it was almost stationary.
At 2 p.m. on the same day, the tropical depression was located about 520 km southeast of Macao, developed into a tropical storm (18.5°N, 116.7°E, central pressure 998 hPa) and was named Linfa (0903). The maximum sustained wind speed near the center was 67km/h, kept almost stationary.
At 2 a.m. on 20 June, Linfa intensified into a severe tropical storm (19.8°N, 117.4°E, central pressure 987 hPa) over South China Sea and was moving northwards at 17km/h with maximum sustained wind speed near the center 92km/h. It moved northwards or north-northeastwards slowly later.
Linfa weakened into a tropical storm (24.4°N, 118.5°E, central pressure 993 hPa) after making landfall over Jinjiang City, Fujian Province. It was moving north-northeastwards at 16km/h with maximum sustained wind speed near the center 79km/h at 8:30 p.m. on 21 June.
Linfa weakened into a tropical depression at 2 p.m. next day, then moved northeastwards and dissipated gradually.
