At 8 a.m. on 25 September 2009, a tropical depression formed at the east of the Philippines over Pacific (14.2°N, 127.9°E, central pressure 1000 hPa), which was moving west-northwestwards at a speed of 23km/h with the maximum sustained winds of 54km/h. At 8 a.m. on 26 September, the tropical depression intensified into a tropical storm (15.2°N, 122.9°E, central pressure 998 hPa) and was named Ketsana (0916). It was getting close to the northern part of the Philippines by moving west-northwestwards at a speed of 23km/h with the maximum sustained winds of 67km/h. At 8 a.m. on 27 September, Ketsana reached South China Sea after crossing Luzon. It was located at 800km south-southeast of Macao and enhanced into a severe tropical storm (15.5°N, 116.3°E, central pressure 987hPa). It was moving westwards at a speed of 25km/h with the maximum sustained winds of 92km/h. At 11 a.m. on 28 September, Ketsana was located at 710km south of Macao, reinforced into a typhoon (15.9°N, 112.4°E, central pressure 973hPa). It was crossing the northern part of South China Sea by moving westwards at a speed of 15km/h, with the maximum sustained winds of 118km/h. Ketsana made landfall in Vietnam and weakened into a severe tropical storm (15.4°N, 107.9°E, central pressure 987hPa) at 8 p.m. on 29 September. It was moving southwestwards at a speed of 20km/h with the maximum sustained winds of 92m/h. Ketsana weakened further into a tropical storm (15.5°N, 106.3E, central pressure 996hPa) at 8 a.m. on 30 September with the maximum sustained winds of 75m/h. It moved toward inland and dissipated finally.
