
On 13th April 2008, a tropical disturbance formed at the south of the Philippines. At 02:00 on 14th April, it intensified into tropical depression (8.0¢XN, 123.0¢XE, with central pressure 1000hPa) and was moving westwards at a speed of 28km/h.
At 11:00 on 15th April, the tropical depression continued to intensify into a tropical storm (10.3¢XN, 116.9¢XE, with central pressure 998hPa) and was named ¡§Neoguri¡¨ (0801), it was the first tropical storm that was formed in the South China Sea in 2008, with maximum sustained wind near center 67km/h and was moving west-northwestwards at 24km/h.
At 11:00 on 16th April, the tropical storm intensified into a severe tropical storm (13.3¢XN, 112.6¢XE, with central pressure 987hPa) over South China Sea, with maximum sustained wind near the center 93km/h and was moving northwestwards at 11km/h. At 20:00, ¡§Neoguri¡¨ intensified into a typhoon (13.7¢XN, 112.4¢XE with central pressure 973hPa) and maximum sustained wind near the center 119km/h, it was moving west-northwestwards at 6km/h.
Typhoon ¡§Neoguri¡¨ was located within 800 kilometers of Macao in the morning of 17th April, the Standby Signal No.1 was issued by SMG at 16:30; ¡§Neoguri¡¨ was moving northwestwards or north-northwestwards at a speed of 13km/h towards east coastal area of Hainan. By the joint influence of an anticyclone located in continental China and ¡§Neoguri¡¨, as a result, there was a increment in the intensity of the wind around Macao. Strong Wind Signal No.3 was issued by SMG at 20:45 on 18th of April. At that moment, ¡§Neoguri¡¨ was found about 360 kilometers in south-southwest of Macau (19.4¢XN, 111.6¢XE with central pressure 956hPa), and was moving for Northwards at 20km/h. At 22:00, ¡§Neoguri¡¨ passed by east Hainan and weakened into a severe tropical storm (20.7¢XN, 111.6¢XE with central pressure 981hPa).
At 13:30 on 19th April, Gale Signal No.8 SE was hoisted when the rain band and gale wind approached Macao; at 14:00, due to the influence of friction by continent and the relatively cool sea water, ¡§Neoguri¡¨ became weaken into a tropical storm at about 180 kilometers west-southwest of Macau (21.4¢XN, 111.9¢XE with central pressure 993hPa); ¡§Neoguri¡¨ landed at the east of Yangjiang in the Province of Guangdong; at 19:30 ¡§Neoguri¡¨ continued to weaken, the wind of Macao gradually weakened, the Gale Signal No.8 SE was replaced by the Strong Wind Signal No.3 accordingly.
At 01:00 on the next day, ¡§Neoguri¡¨ weakened into a tropical depression, it was moving north-northeastwards and diminished inland gradually. The wind in Macao weakened in fresh later and all typhoon signals were cancelled consequently.
