
SANVU developed as a tropical depression over the Pacific about 990km east of the Manila(near 20¢XN, 111¢XE) around 06UTC on 10th August and moved to the west or west-northwest at a speed of 18km/h. Around 06UTC on the next day, it intensified into a tropical storm near 17.9¢XN, 124.8¢XE, with central pressure of 994hPa and central maximum wind of 65 km/h. It then moved to the northwest at a speed of 36km/h.
SANVU skirted the northeastern tip of Luzon and then traversed the Luzon Strait with a speed of 28km/h in the early morning on 12th August. Upon entering the South China Sea, it moved in the area which is 800 km around Macao in the noon. At night, SANVU moved to 620km east-southeast of Macao(near 20.2¢XN, 119.2¢XE) and then intensified further into a severe tropical storm, with central pressure of 986hPa and central maximum wind of 92km/h. It continuously adopted a north-northwestward course in a steady speed and headed towards the east coast of Guangdong.
Around 20UTC on 12th, SANUV located at 500km east-southeast of Macao(near 21.4¢XN, 118.3¢XE) and moved north-northwesterly with a speed of 25km/h. SANVU made landfall near Shantu about 380km east of Macao in the noon. After entering to the inland, it still moved to the north-northwest and weakened into a tropical storm around 12UTC. On the next day, SANVU weakened and moved to the inland further and finally dissipated over inland.
