
Damrey developed as a tropical depression over the Pacific to the northeast of Baguio (near 14.6¢XN, 123.5¢XE) on the morning of 20th September and moved to the northwest slowly. Around 00UTC on the next day, it intensified into a tropical storm near 17.8¢XN, 123.0¢XE, with central pressure of 996hPa, central maximum wind of 65km/h and moved to the northwest at a speed of over 10km/h. It skirted the northeastern tip of Luzon on the morning of 21st and entered to the northern part of South China Sea on 22nd. Around 06UTC on 22nd, it located about 750km southeast of Macau and its moving direction changed from northwest to west.
Around 12UTC on 23rd, Damrey located near 20.2¢XN, 116.7¢XE and intensified into a severe tropical storm, with central pressure of 980hPa and central maximum wind of 92km/h. It moved to the waters about 295km(19.6¢XN, 114.4¢XE) southeast of Macau around 09UTC on 24th and intensified further into a typhoon, with central pressure 974hPa and central maximum wind of 120km/h. Damrey continually moved to the west and passed by south of Macau in the South China Sea which is about 300 km away from us. It then headed generally westward in the direction of Hainan and left Macau gradually.
Damrey made landfall on eastern Hainan on 26th September and rampaged through the province. After entering the Beibu golf on the afternoon of 26th, it made landfall a second time over Vietnam coast on the morning of 27th and weakened into a severe tropical storm. It then moved to the inland further and dissipated gradually.
