
Around 06 UTC on 15th July, IMBUDO formed as a tropical depression over the Pacific to the east of the Philippines (near 6.5¢XN, 149.0¢XE) and drifted to the west-northwest slowly.
It intensified into a tropical storm near 8.5¢XN and 140.9¢XE around 06 UTC on 17th, with central pressure of 996 hPa and central maximum wind of 65 km/h. It then veered slightly to the northwest and approached Luzon.
It became a severe tropical storm near 10.6¢XN and 136.5¢XE around 18 UTC on 18th, with central pressure of 985 hPa and central maximum wind of 92 km/h.
Twenty-four hours later, it attained typhoon strength over the Pacific (near 10.9¢XN, 133.5¢XE) around 18 UTC on 19th, with central pressure of 970 hPa and central maximum wind of 121 km/h.
It then moved steadily to the northwest and after traversed Luzon on 22nd, it entered the South China Sea quickly, at a speed of 25 to 30 km/h towards the coast of Guangdong.
Around 01 UTC on 24th, IMBUDO made landfall near Maoming and kept moving to the northwest overland. It was closest to Macao at about 200 km (near 21.3¢XN, 1117¢XE) to the west-southwest around 02 UTC and downgraded into a severe tropical storm and then a tropical storm respectively later the day.
It further became a tropical depression near the boundary of China and Viet Nam in the following morning on 25th.
