
KAMMURI gradually developed as a tropical depression over the South China Sea near Dongsha (near 20.7¢XN, 117.6 ¢XE) around 00 UTC on 3rd August. It moved to the west at a rather slow speed of 6 to 8 km/h initially, but soon accelerated to 12 to 16 km/h.
It intensified into a tropical storm over the water near 20.7¢XN, 114.9¢XE around 18 UTC on the same day, with central pressure of 990 hPa and central maximum wind of 65 km/h. It then became quasi-stationary about 200 km southeast of Macao, but later veered to the north suddenly around 02 UTC on 4th, approaching the coast of Guangdong east of Macao.
KAMMURI was closest to Macao at about 160 km (near 21.4¢XN, 114.9¢XE) to the east-southeast around 08 UTC on 4th.
Drifting to the northeast at a speed of 10 to 14 km/h, it strengthened into a severe tropical storm around 18 UTC on the same day (near 22.1¢XN, 115.5¢XE), with central pressure of 980 hPa and central maximum wind of 92 km/h.
It made landfall near Shanwei when tracking to the north around 22 UTC on 4th. Five hours later, it weakened into a tropical storm around 03 UTC on 5th and again three hours later, it became a tropical depression around 06 UTC in Jiangxi, dissipating over land continuously.
