Description of weather radar image

SMG X-band meteorological radar located over Taipa Grande is purposed for monitoring the reflected data of water vapor within the atmosphere of Macao and neighboring areas in order to reflect the rainfall situation within the observed areas.

Data shown on the radar image represents the rainfall intensity from a height of 3 km above mean sea level. The color scale to the left indicates the respective rainfall intensity with different colors in units of mm/h. Time shown on the top represents the radar scanning starting time in Macao time. Be aware that this image only indicates approximate rainfall intensity over the 3 km height level and may experience certain deviation with the actual rainfall intensity on the surface level.

Besides, meteorological radar may occasionally received reflected signals other than rainfall which includes reflections from clouds, trees, buildings, aircrafts, birds, insects, hills and sea waves, etc. Also, owing to the specific characteristics of the X-band meteorological radar, whenever severe precipitation system develops right up above the sky of Macao or passing by, reflected signals from nearby areas may appear apparent weakening or even disappeared. Thus please exercise extra care when viewing this image.
